SANTA CLARITA -- College of the Canyons edged Bakersfield College 84-81 on Wednesday in men's basketball and is now alone in first place in the Western State Conference South Division.

BC (8-9, 2-1 WSC) had a 41-36 halftime lead. The game featured six ties and 11 lead changes. Canyons is 13-6 (3-0 WSC).

Conroy Lester led a balanced BC attack with 13 points. T.J. Jackson scored 12, R'Mand Harp and Duncan Schramm had 11 each and Damian Robinson scored 10.

BC hosts Citrus next Wednesday.

SANTA CLARITA -- Bakersfield College fell 80-65 to College of the Canyons in women's basketball. Haley Huntington led BC (9-9 overall, 2-1 Western State Conference South) with 16 points. Sabrina Lopez scored 14 points, Brittany Smith had 13 points and 10 rebounds and Emilee Parks added 12 points, eight assists and four steals.

Canyons (12-7, 2-1) led 36-24 at halftime. BC shot only 29 percent from the field. BC hosts L.A. Valley at 3 p.m. Saturday.
