Firefighters and other emergency responders rescued a man Thursday afternoon who reportedly was stuck in a rail car in Mojave for seven to nine days.

The man was coherent and taken to a hospital after firefighters cut through the top of the rail car and used a pulley system to get him out, Kern County Fire Engineer Anthony Romero said. The rail care, used by a cement company, was in the 9000 block of Oak Creek Road.

Romero said a cement company employee called firefighters at 1:15 p.m. to report the man was in the car. It was unclear how the man became stuck in the car or how he survived for so long.
