Deputies with the Kern County Sheriff's Gang Suppression Section arrested a 21-year-old man Friday night on suspicion of possessing methamphetamine.

A department news release states that the deputies pulled over Javier Villegas Gonzalez, a suspected gang member, during a traffic enforcement stop at about 8:20 p.m. at Haley and Oregon streets.

During a search they concluded he had provided a false identification and was driving without a valid driver's license, the release states. They also found what the release says was 15.5 grams of suspected methamphetamine, as well as two fixed-blade knives.

Gonzalez was booked on suspicion of possessing a controlled substance for the purpose of sales, transportation of a controlled substance, participation in a criminal street gang and providing false identifying information to a peace officer.

The release said he was also suspected of several vehicle code violations.
