The Kern County Sheriff's Department is currently seeking student cadets for an upcoming Corrections Officer CORE academy.

The CORE academy is scheduled to begin April 1 and CORE classes will be held on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday from 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. at the Kern Regional Training Center at 962 Norris Road in Bakersfield.

Applicants must be at least 18 years of age and be able to pass an applicant selection process conducted by the Kern County Sheriff's Department which includes an entry test, physical agility test, oral interview, and personal history statement. Cadets who complete the CORE course and graduate will be eligible to apply for lateral entry detentions deputy positions with the Kern County Sheriff's Department and correctional officer positions with other law enforcement agencies within the State of California.

The entry test will be offered on the following dates at the Kern Regional Training Center: 6 p.m. Jan. 8, Jan. 9, Jan. 10, Jan. 15, Jan. 16 and Jan. 17; 8 a.m. Jan. 19; 6 p.m. Jan. 22, Jan. 23 and Jan. 24; and 8 a.m. Jan. 26.
