A man shot out the windows of a Kern High School District Police officer's marked car at East Bakersfield High School on Wednesday afternoon, a district spokesman said in an email.

At about 3 p.m., a man riding a BMX-style bicycle shot out the windows on the front and back passenger side of the car using a handgun, according to the email. Multiple shots were fired, but the exact amount is unknown.

The officer was not in the car at the time of the shooting. He was in East High's administrative building. The officer's car was parked in front of the school's auditorium on Quincy Street, according to the email.

Some students who were standing in front of the school saw the man shooting the windows and riding off into a nearby neighborhood. No one was injured, according to the email.

The man is described as white and between the ages of 18 and 30. It is believed he is not a student at East High.

The KHSD Police Department is investigating the incident.
