UC Santa Barbara swept Cal State Bakersfield's swimming teams Saturday at CSUB's Hillman Aquatics Center. The Gauchos won the men's competition, 184-115, and the women's, 162-132.
Mitchell Huxhold of CSUB won the 500 freestyle (4:35.27) and 1,000 free (9:36.56). Troy Neklason added two wins in men's diving, scoring 264.95 in the 1-meter board and 290.00 in the 3-meter.
The CSUB women were led by Lauren Kaufman, who won the 50 free (24.41) and 100 free (53.15) and was the third leg of CSUB's wimming 400 free relay team (3:35.72).
Michaela Paige won the 500 free (5:03.31) and 200 IM (2:10.78) and was second in the 200 butterfly (2:08.47).
The CSUB women also had first-place finishes from Nicolette Goncalves (58.51 in the 100 fly) and Kooper Thomas (1-meter diving, 239.05).
Frontier High graduate Randy Aakhus, a junior at Santa Barbara, won the 200 IM in1:55.66. He was second in two events, the 200 fly (53.52) and 500 free (4:36.29).
Andy Castilleja, a freshman from Stockdale High who competes for the Gauchos, was second in three events: the 100 breast (58.75), 200 breast (1:02.04) and 200 IM (1:56.13).
