A California Highway Patrol officer's death has been ruled a suicide, according to a Kern County Sheriff's coroner's office news release.
Denny Drummond, 42, was found lying in the street on the 2700 block of Karla Street with a gunshot wound to his head on Thursday night, sheriff's officials have said. He was taken to Kern Medical Center and died early Friday morning.
The coroner's office confirmed Monday that Drummond died of a contact perforating gunshot wound to the head and that the manner of death was suicide.
Drummond was an officer at the CHP for 14 years. He was off duty at the time of his suicide. CHP officials have said Drummond had cancer that was in remission, but he was being evaluated for a possible reoccurrence.
