The Bakersfield City Council is looking for applicants to fill multiple positions on two city boards.

There are several openings on the Keep Bakersfield Beautiful Committee, the city's litter and beautification group. Terms for two members, John Enriquez and Susan B. Stussy, will end in January. Both were appointed by Bakersfield Mayor Harvey Hall, and Stussy is an alternate member. Also, the city council is looking for someone to finish the term of Sheryl Graab, who resigned her position as alternate member for Ward 7. That term expires in November 2014.

Hall and Ward 7 Councilman Russell Johnson will nominate their choices from the applicants. The nominee will be confirmed by a majority vote on the city council. Alternate members only have voting rights if their respective committee member is absent from a committee vote.

The committee recommends policies and programs to the city council to promote beautification efforts in Bakersfield.

The city council also is looking for a person to serve on the Planning Commission, due to the expiration of Commissioner Dean Haddock's term in April 2013. The Planning Commission maintains the city's General Plan and zoning ordinance, reviews the city's Capital Improvement Plan and reviews and approves subdivisions and parcel maps. Ward 3 Councilman Ken Weir will nominate his choice for the opening. That person will then have to be appointed by the full city council.

Applicants have to be Bakersfield residents throughout the term. The appointee also will have to complete a Statement of Economic Interests (F.P.P.C. Form 700) and Health & Safety Code, Section #33130, California Redevelopment Law Disclosure Statement when he or she takes office. A new appointee will have to complete an ethics course approved by the Fair Political Practices Commission and the Attorney General. Each commissioner has to complete this training every two years.

Applications for all the positions are available at the City Clerk's Office, City Hall North, 1600 Truxtun Ave., or at the city website: The deadline for applying for all positions is 5 p.m. Jan. 9.
