Fire crews plan to begin ignitions on the Ice Prescribed Fire project on the Kern River Ranger District of the Sequoia National Forest on Tuesday.

Fuel reduction will have beneficial impacts on health and safety in the project areas by reducing the risk of a stand-replacing fire and restoring natural ecosystems while improving public safety. This area covers 10 acres and is located in the Greenhorn Mountains in Kern County, west of the community of Alta Sierra and southwest of the Greenhorn Summit.

Smoke impacts should be localized while visible from most communities surrounding Isabella Lake. The Windy Gap Road will have heavy traffic because of fire equipment and personnel.
