The owner of a blue 1992 Chevrolet truck reported being carjacked south of Bakersfield early Saturday by two men who held a gun to him and later assaulted him.

The truck owner, 47-year-old Bakersfield resident Jerry Garza, reported being at a convenience store on South Union Avenue and White Lane when unknown men got into his truck, pointed a gun at him and ordered him to drive away, according to a news release by the Kern County Sheriff's Office. He said a woman followed them in another vehicle.

After driving around the area south of Bakersfield, the release states, the man pulled over along Cottonwood Road south of DiGiorgio Road, where he was assaulted. His assailants then drove off in his truck and the second vehicle, the department reported. He made his way to a nearby residence where a call was placed to the Sheriff's department at about 12:55 a.m.

Garza suffered non-life-threatening injuries to his head and torso, and was transported to a hospital in the area for treatment.
