Three Fresno residents were injured Monday in a crash on Interstate 5 just south of Gorman School Road.

Angel Rivera, 25, was driving northbound on I-5 at 7:40 a.m. at 65 mph, and Stephanie Armenta, 20, and Jessica Gonzales, also 20, were in the vehicle with him, according to a California Highway Patrol news release. Bulmaro Ramirez, 45, of Pomona, was also driving northbound on I-5 in a big rig ahead of Rivera at 20 mph.

Rivera, driving at an unsafe speed and possibly fatigued, failed to notice Ramirez's slower speed and crashed into the rear of the big rig, the news release said. Rivera and Armenta suffered moderate injuries, and Gonzales suffered major injuries.

Ramirez was uninjured. The news release said northbound and southbound I-5 were temporarily closed to allow a helicopter to land.
