The Kern County Republican Party will be holding a grand opening of its headquarters on Tuesday from 4:30 p.m. to 6 p.m. at 1811 Oak St. State Sen. Jean Fuller and Assemblywoman Shannon Grove will be there. The headquarters are open Monday to Saturday from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. daily. Volunteers can stop in and sign up for precinct walks, phone banks and voter registration efforts.

Kern County voters can now download their sample ballot and voter information pamphlets from the Kern County Elections Division website -- keeping a few more pieces of mail out of their mailboxes during election season.

The online download, which is tailored to each individual through a number of questions that narrow down where they live, lists the candidates and initiatives that each voter can cast a ballot on.

It also provides information about who represents each voter and how to vote at either your polling place or by mail-in ballot.

Traditionally the pamphlets have been mailed out to voters. While some voters will continue to get that mailing, Kern County voters can now decline the mailing and find the same information online.

To find your online sample ballot and information, go to, click on the "Sample Ballot & Voter Information Pamphlet" button and answer questions about your place of residence.

Republican state Assembly candidate Pedro Rios has gotten an endorsement from Republican state Assemblyman David Valadao in his bid for the 32nd Assembly District seat.

"Pedro is a great candidate and fighter who knows what it takes to bring jobs and water to the district and wants to end this high-speed rail boondoggle threatening our livelihoods," Valadao said in a press release from Rios' campaign. "He embodies the American dream, and that is what we need in Sacramento."

Valadao is running for U.S. Congress against Democrat John Hernandez. The district Valadao represents now, which was the 30th Assembly District before redistricting, includes some of the area in the new 32nd District, such as much of Kings County and a northwest section of Kern County.
