American Taekwondo Association of Bakersfield had seven Students and three instructors competing in the West Coast American Taekwondo Association Championships Saturday at the Ventura County Fair Grounds. Steven Marquez won sparring in the men's 19-29 among first o third degree black belts. Jennifer Pauline won sparring and combat sparrring in women's first to third degree black belts. Mohammed Hammad was second in men's first- to third-degree combat sparring. Bianca Pulido won sparring and combat sparring for girls 8U. Lexi Pulido, 4, competed in the Tiny Tigers event. Tucker and Tristan Monico, who are recommended black belts, were given Songahm Spirit Awards for for their performances in forms and sparring. In the boys 8-10 recommended black belt division, Chance Miller was first in forms and sparring and Darius Picar was second in sparring.

All 33 girls who competed for American Academy of Gymnastics in its first prelim of the season on Sept. 15-16 Covina qualified sectionals. For American Academy, in Level 5: Karlee Taylor was 3rd place all-around with a 36.125, Natalie Roberts was floor (9.325). The rest of the level 5 team included Caitlin Lowery, Dalilia Olivera, Melissa Bothwell, Kaitlyn McDonnell, Samantha Noe, Maggi Komin, Sophie Bouldoukian, Sydney Lahoda, Kimberly Mielke, Elena Caballero, Ireland Fleming, Alise Lowe and Kayleigh Perry. American Academy's Level 4 team's Sarah Graessly earned a second on vault, and Rebekah Powell earned American's highest all around score of 36.55. The rest of the level 4 team included: Dulce Felizarta,Nicole Matthias,Victoria Moore, Victoria Rosales, Grace Witcher, Hannah Ward, Gizzelle Handschumacher, Katelynn Mitchell, Amanda Winslow, Halle Rice, Reanna Rowland,Brandee Galvin and Nicole Kim. On American Academy's level 6 team. Isabella Becerra won on vault and was second all around (34.85). Amy Cheng won on the balance beam with (9.675) and Taylor Bentley was second on vault (9.25).
