Kern County Sheriff's detectives are investigating a fatal Saturday night shooting.
Trinidad C. Ortiz, 33, was walking in the 2100 block of Monterey Street when he was shot multiple times, according to a Kern County Sheriff's coroner's office news release. At about 8:37 p.m., deputies were called to the address for a report of shots fired, according to a sheriff's department news release.
Deputies found Ortiz in the road suffering from multiple gunshot wounds to his back and legs. The Bakersfield man was taken to Kern Medical Center where he died, the coroner's news release said. An autopsy is set for the start of the week.
Witnesses said they saw a dark-colored Honda Civic fleeing east on Monterey Street from the scene of the shooting. Detectives were called to investigate.
