SAN DIEGO -- Chanel Cantere had 31 digs and 33 kills and was selected to the all-tournament team as Taft College won the San Diego City College Tournament.

The Cougars defeated Cerritos (25-23, 25-22), Rio Hando (25-21, 25-17) and Arizona-South Mountain (25-18, 25-13) in pool play before defeating Arizona Western (25-17) in the semi-finals and South Mountain (28-26) in the title match.

Other Taft standouts were Tiffany Mapusaga (48 digs, 19 kills), Sina Mauga (13 blocks, 18 kills) and Madison Lawley (11 blocks, 11 kills). The Cougars (8-3) host Fresno City on Wednesday.

BC wrestling

Bakersfield College fell to Palomar, 30-15, in the championship match of the BC Duals, finishing second out of nine teams in the season opening tournament.

In earlier matches, the Renegades beat East L.A. (33-16) and Cerritos (22-14). Cesar Luna went 4-0 while Max Ramirez and Tyler Hartsfield finished 3-1.

BC soccer

Cassidy Ramirez scored two goals as Ventura College beat the Bakersfield College women's soccer team 4-0 on Friday night. Renegared goalie Erin Griepsma had five saves. BC's record is 4-2.
