Kern County Superintendent of Schools' special education division will accept a 24 iPads donation from Bakersfield native and former National Football League standout Joey Porter and wife Christy Porter.

The Porters, who have a child in special education, are donating the iPads to help enhance instruction, specifically to accommodate writing and communication for KCSOS students who are working on fine motor control, or have limited verbal abilities.

"This generous donation will assist in our division's strategic planning to enhance curriculum and instruction for students with special needs by further improving technology in our classrooms," said Brian Cortez, director of special education programs with KCSOS. "The capabilities of the iPad for educational purposes go well beyond online textbooks. They will provide our students with a variety of tools to help them learn about the world around them."

The donation will be made at 11 a.m. today at the Jasmine Nyree Center, 6800 District Boulevard.
