A 51-year-old Bakersfield man was stabbed several times during an attempted robbery Friday night while walking in east Bakersfield, Kern County Sheriff's Office reported.
Joey Lozano was walking at about 9:45 p.m. near Mount Vernon Avenue and Kentucky Street when he was approached by 22-year-old Xavier Lopez, who was holding a knife, according to deputies.
Lopez cut Lozano in the torso, demanded money, and before he could respond, Lopez cut him in the torso again, deputies reported
Lozano ran into the roadway in an attempt to flag down a passing motorist for help, and Lopez ran from the scene. During the investigation, deputies found and identified Lopez as the suspect. He was arrested on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon, and non-related outstanding warrants.
He was booked at Kern County Jail, under $37,500 bail.
Lozano suffered several deep cuts to his torso. He was taken to a local hospital where he was treated for non-life threatening injuries, deputies reported.
