The Jawbone fire is currently 55 percent contained at 905 acres and the Rim fire is 17 percent contained at 6,129 acres.
The Kern County Fire Department was called out to a blaze started by lightning at about 4 p.m. Friday in Bureau of Land Management land near Jawbone Canyon, according to a Kern County Fire Department news release.
Three windmills have been destroyed, and there are a number of isolated cabins and properties that are potentially in the path of the fire, the news release said. There is a soft closure of Jawbone Canyon Road, which is the access point to the Jawbone Recreational area, that will continue for the next few days.
