Deputies evacuated several Delano apartments Friday afternoon after a resident acted oddly and said he wanted to shoot something.

Kern County Sheriff's Department deputies from the Delano substation were called to a disturbance in an apartment complex in the 10000 block of Mettler Avenue after someone reported that Henry Tapia Jr., 26, was acting strange and throwing things out of his apartment, according to a sheriff's department news release.

Deputies knocked on Tapia's door and heard him say he wanted to shoot something. He stopped communicating with the deputies briefly and the surrounding apartments were evacuated as a precaution, deputies said. Tapia exited the apartment soon after. He did not have a gun, deputies said.

Tapia was arrested on suspicion of being under a controlled substance and taken to the downtown jail in Bakersfield.
