A man is facing a felony hit-and-run charge for allegedly fleeing the scene of a fatal accident in April.

Lupe Israel Rivas, 32, wasn't at fault in the crash that killed Cameron Dee Fenwick but he left the scene, California Highway Patrol Officer Robert Rodriguez said. Charges were filed against Rivas in June and he was arrested Tuesday, according to Kern County Superior Court records.

The crash happened at 1:02 a.m. April 15 when Fenwick, 21, of Bakersfield, was driving south on Oswell Street, Rodriguez said. Fenwick and Rivas, who was going north on Oswell and making a left turn onto Niles Street, collided. Fenwick died several hours later at Kern Medical Center from his injuries.

Rivas fled on foot but turned himself in to the Bakersfield Police Department later that morning. He was taken to the hospital to be treated for injuries, Rodriguez said.

Rivas is charged with hit and run resulting in death and driving without a license, according court records.
