A Kern Valley student has been recognized as an outstanding youth volunteer for the Kohl's Department Stores "Kohl's Cares" scholarship program.
Garrett Willis from Kern Valley High School won a $1,000 scholarship toward college. According to Kohl's, Willis is involved in his school and church, and has been traveling to Tecoloto in Mexico since he was 9 years old, serving in an orphanage about six times a year for a week at a time. Every Christmas Garrett travels to Mexico to help provide food and gifts to approximately 1,500 children.
