A local elementary school student was chosen as a winner of a statewide "school bus safety poster contest" by the California Association of School Transportation Officials.

Alexis Perez, a fifth grade student at Plantation Elementary in Greenfield Union School District, won the statewide contest against about 15 others in the four through six grade division. State entries were submitted by local school transportation offices. As a local winner, Perez won a gift card and $40 classroom party.

Posters were judged based on school bus design, originality, and visual impact. This year's poster theme was, "There is Pride in our Ride."
