Shortly after 11:30 p.m. Thursday, Bakersfield police noticed a sedan speeding in the area of Stine Road and Panama Lane.
Officers tried to stop the vehicle, but the driver kept going and a short chase began. Officers stopped the pursuit after less than a minute because they believed conditions made the chase unsafe.
About a minute later, the sedan collided with a second vehicle on Stine Road, just north of Ming Avenue. Both vehicles sustained moderate damage, and the driver of the second vehicle complained of pain.
The driver of the sedan, Shepherd Teal Jr., 29, of Bakersfield, was arrested on suspicion of vehicle code violations including evading a police officer. No police vehicles were chasing Shepherd at the time of the crash.
