The Wylie and May Louise Jones Gallery at Bakersfield College is debuting a new show which invites area high school artists to display at the northeast community college.
Panorama Invitational: An Exhibit of Exceptional Artwork by Kern County High School Juniors and Seniors, features work by students at Bakersfield High School, Centennial High School, Frontier High School, Foothill High School, Garces High School, Golden Valley High School, Independence High School, Liberty High School, North High School, South High School, and West High School.
"The importance of the exhibition is that it allows high school artists, sometimes for the first time, to see their work in a professional environment," said Gallery director Margaret Nowling. "The work is viewed by a broader audience, including their peers, than would normally see the students' art."
According to their teachers, students find this exhibit experience invigorating and it can become the necessary push to help the students strive for achievement in future works. Artwork chosen for the show is picked by the high school art teachers working with senior students.
The artwork ranges in media from ceramic work and sculpture to printmaking, photography, digital imaging, graphic design, and painting. To view a sampling of the artwork in the exhibit, visit: .
