The July issue of Bakersfield Life comes out Saturday -- but "First Look with Scott Cox" viewers and listeners got a preview Friday.
"There's 150 pages of Bakersfield goodness in here," magazine assistant managing editor Jorge Barrientos said on the simulcast.
Editor Olivia Garcia said we always hear the negatives about Bakersfield. But the issue is full of the good -- from 50 fun things to do in town this summer to the debut of 20 Under 40 People to Watch.
"They all have great stories. They are making Bakersfield a better place," Barrientos said.
He explained that the process of selecting the 20 people began with nominations in March. About 150 people were nominated. Those selected are people who are making a difference and are successful in their fields and in the community.
Two of the people were introduced on the simulcast.
Ken Beurmann is CEO of TERRIO Physical Therapy & Fitness Inc.
And Melanie Cruz co-owns a product development firm, Dream Innovators.
You can read their stories and more in the July issue.
"It's really a nice publication. It's just nice to look at," simulcast host Scott Cox said.
