Sometimes you want a hot dog on a stick but it's too much trouble to drive to Valley Plaza mall and find a parking space near the food court.
Take heart, Bakersfield: Hot Dog on a Stick is looking to build a drive-through somewhere in town.
It's not clear yet where the stand would go, but the Carlsbad-based company confirmed Monday that one's in the works.
"We're negotiating with someone" in Bakersfield, said the company's executive vice president, Laurie Sonia. She declined to be more specific.
Hot Dog on a Stick is the iconic mall restaurant known as much for its fresh-squeezed lemonade and colorful uniforms as its corn dogs. Founded as Party Puffs in 1946, it has about 100 locations around the country.
Last year the company opened its first drive-through, a kiosk in the corner of a parking lot at a West Jordan, Utah shopping center. It was part of an expansion drive that was to include domestic franchising opportunities and 24-hour operations inside a Las Vegas casino.
The chain is also hunting for the right real estate in Fresno, Sonia said, adding that the company has mall locations there and in Clovis.
"We want to make our product accessible to more customers because we feel like we're missing a group of people that doesn't go to the mall," Sonia said of the Bakersfield negotiations.
