I was both shocked and saddened to hear the news of Vincent Brother's loss -- but even more so that he would even be accused of such a horrific crime.

I first met Brothers (Veech as we called him) in 1982 while attending Norfolk (Va.) State University. We dated for a while and I must say he was one of the most patient, kind, caring, considerate and good-hearted men I had the pleasure of knowing.

The police are trying to make this an open-and-shut case, but it is more than that. If they truly knew Veech, his character and demeanor, they would know he could never commit such an act.

I hope and pray the police will continue their search for the person who committed this crime and do not center their focus on Brothers.
