ADVERTISING/MARKETING SALES

OUTSIDE SALES ACCOUNT EXECUTIVE-NEW BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT

Our Advertising Division has an opening for a New Business Development Sales Representative. This position will market and sell the benefits of advertising in The Bakersfield Californian and all other products in which The Californian has an involvement in a professional and knowledgeable manner towards achievement of sales goals.

Qualifications are:

• High School Diploma or equivalent, Bachelor's Degree preferred.
• Must have California Driver’s License with acceptable DMV record; and independent transportation with proper insurance.

CLASSIFIED ADVISOR

This position will sell and market the benefits of advertising in all the Californian products, and serve the public in a courteous, efficient manner.

Qualifications are:

• High School Graduate with 2 years college preferred or equivalent work experience.
• Type 45 WPM.
• Excellent phone skills, reading, writing, spelling and basic math skills.
• 1 year of sales or telemarketing experience.

Circulation

KIOSK SALES REPRESENTATIVE

This position will employ various techniques to increase the circulation of The Bakersfield Californian through direct contact with potential subscribers. Candidate must have the ability to initiate sales calls to non-subscribers in various locations including storefronts, business locations and special events.

Qualifications are:

• High School diploma or equivalent
• Previous sales, marketing and/or customer service experience preferred
• Knowledge of computers – Word, Excel, etc.
• Valid California Drivers License with acceptable DMV record and proof of auto insurance

CIRCULATION FIELD ASSISTANT – MISSED DELIVERY DRIVER

This position will support Home Delivery with efforts in the field by responding to after hour subscriber complaints, replacing the missed deliveries in a timely and efficient manner.

Qualifications are:

• High School Diploma or equivalent
• Knowledge of city streets
• Valid California Driver’s License with acceptable DMV Record
• Prior Customer Service experience preferred
• Route Delivery experience preferred.

CIRCULATION FIELD ASSISTANT - COLLECTOR

Will Support the Single Copy Area Manager(s) in the distribution and collection of single copy newspapers and monies.

Qualifications are:

• High School Diploma or equivalent
• Knowledge of streets in Bakersfield - ability to read a city grid map
• Valid CA Driver's License with acceptable DMV record
• Knowledge of Excel and Word
• Strong communication skills
• Prior route delivery/collection experience required - newspaper delivery preferred.

ASSISTANT AREA MANAGER

Our Circulation division has an opening for an Assistant Area Manager. This position requires the following experience. Early morning shifts required.

Qualifications are:

• Ability to read a city map
• High School diploma or equivalent
• Knowledge of the inner streets of Bakersfield
• Excellent customer service skills
• Excellent written and oral communication skills
• Supervisory experience preferred but not necessary

ROUTE DRIVER

Distributes newspapers to racks and retail establishments throughout the city and county. Must be able to work nights and some weekend shifts. Ability to work nights and weekends.

Qualifications are:

• Ability to read a street map
• Prior route delivery experience desirable but not required
• Valid California Driver’s license
• High school diploma or equivalent G.E.D.

Our Interactive Media division has an opening for a web designer. This position will provide technical support for efficient and effective web operations, as well as supporting the design and development team members.

Qualifications Include:

• Experience in web design or web development required.
• Experience with Photoshop; Flash and ActionScript a plus.
• Experience with hand-coding HTML and CSS; javascript a plus.
• Knowledge of web standards and cross-browser issues a plus.

COPY EDITOR

Our News division has an opening for a Copy Editor with Sports. This position will ensure stories are edited for accuracy and clarity.

Qualifications Include:

• High School diploma or equivalent.
• Preferably a college degree (ideally in journalism or liberal arts.)
• Reporting and editing experience.
• Good grammar and above average spelling skills.
• Knowledge of current events on the local, state, national and international levels.
• Familiarity with stylebook.

ASSISTANT WEB EDITOR

This position will provide the newsroom with technical expertise on web design and help lead the Web team as assistant to the Web Editor.

Qualifications Include:

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in computer science, graphic design, communications, journalism or business.
• Knowledge of and experience in HTML, CSS, DHTML, JavaScript, Photoshop, Flash and Dreamweaver. Experience with XML, Java, PHP, Ruby or ASP a plus.
• Previous experience in a media company/newspaper environment a plus.
