Motoko Komatsubara, Vice President and Chief Financial Officer

Komatsubara joined The Bakersfield Californian in June 2002 as Controller serving on the Company’s Planning Committee, and became Vice President and Chief Financial Officer in May 2004. As CFO, Komatsubara reports directly to the Publisher and Chief Executive Officer and is involved in all start-up products, company acquisitions and due diligence, and strategic business planning.

Komatsubara oversees all financial matters involving The Bakersfield Californian and its affiliate companies; 765 Associates - a property development partnership; Valley Direct – house for the weekly newspaper called “The Tehachapi News” and various community telephone books called “Connection”; Participata - a software development and licensing company; and Mercado Nuevo – house for weekly Hispanic magazine called “MAS”, regional community weekly publication called “Voice”, and on-line youth community called “Bakotopia.com”

Reporting to Komatsubara are the Finance, Information & Technology divisions, The Tehachapi News operation, and Connection - phonebook operation.

Before joining The Californian, Komatsubara worked as a Controller for Dole Fresh Vegetables in Salinas, CA - the vegetable division of Dole Food Company. Prior to Dole, she worked as a Senior Auditor for KPMG Peat Marwick in San Jose, CA.

She holds an MBA from the Monterey Institute of International Studies. In addition, two bachelor’s degrees: international relations from the Monterey Institute of International Studies, and international business administration degree from Aoyamagakuin University in Tokyo, Japan
