Local athletes set to sign letters

Bakersfield High senior Cassandra Anderson and Centennial senior Dustin Robinson head a list of area athletes expected to sign national letters of intent today during the NCAA early signing period.

Anderson, a first team All-Area volleyball selection as a junior, will sign with the University of Florida during a ceremony in the Bakersfield High student activities room at noon.
Anderson leads the area with 5.1 kills a game and is tied for seventh in with 1.1 blocks a game.
Robinson, The Californian's Baseball Player of the Year in 2007, will sign with Fresno State.
Robinson led Kern County with 13 home runs, was second in runs (52), tied for third in RBIs (40) and finished fourth in stolen bases (24).
Also joining Robinson in Fresno will be The Californian's Softball Player of the Year Mackenzie Oakes. Oakes is expected to sign with Fresno State on Nov. 20 because of previous arrangements.
Student-athletes will have until Nov. 21 to sign a national letter of intent or will have to wait until the regular signing period that begins April 9.
Cal State Bakersfield is expected to have a slew of local athletes sign letters of intent, according to sports information director Kevin Gilmore.
Two area players expected to sign with the Roadrunners are Tehachapi's Jana Smith, women's basketball; and Stockdale's Lindy DeGeare, volleyball.
Wichita State will have a pair of Bakersfield area athletes sign letters today.
All-Area outfielder Andrew Letourneau from Liberty will be joined by North High's Breanna Brown, who plans to play softball with the Shockers.
