The Tehachapi boys were staggering at the end of the regular season. A loss to Bakersfield Christian helped the Warriors refocus and get back to playing the physical style of basketball that they excelled at.

The No. 6 Warriors defeated No. 4 Hanford West to earn the Central Section Division III title.

Arvin's Hernan Santiago has completely turned around the girls basketball program he took over three seasons ago.

This year, the Bears shared the SSL championship, then came to Bakersfield and stunned No. 6 BHS 71-64 for a Central Section Division I first- round victory.

Santiago started working with this group of seniors, led by Olga Velasquez, as the frosh/soph coach three years ago. He's seen them grow and develop to the point of becoming league champs.

"We've been working with these girls since they were freshmen. We wanted to be able to compete by the time they were seniors and we're doing that," Santiago said earlier this season.
