Douglas John Sharratt was identified as the pilot, according to the Sunriver Police Department. He was the only person aboard the Cessna 441 twin-engine plane.
The aircraft crashed near the Sunriver Airport at about 10 a.m., Federal Aviation Administration spokesman Mike Fergus said. The airport is located south of Bend, Ore.
Officials are investigating the cause of the crash. Fergus did not have more details on Wednesday.
The aircraft is registered to ProSoft Technology Inc. of Bakersfield, the FAA said. Sharratt was the president of the company, according to the ProSoft Technology website.
Owen Shirley was waiting to take a glider ride at the airport when he saw the plane come in for a landing. It hit the runway on one wheel and bounced sideways, he said. It went up in the air, rolled over and headed into the ground, he said. He had a camera and shot several pictures.
