Toddler in critical condition after drinking lighter fluid

A 1-year-old boy was in critical condition Thursday evening after he drank lighter fluid.

Aniken Roquemore drank the fluid at a family barbecue Saturday at his home on Lynett Way near Stockdale Highway, according to his godmother, Angelica Roquemore.
“We had stepped away for a minute and by the time we came back, someone said he drank the lighter fluid,” Roquemore said.
Aniken was incoherent and was trying to go to sleep, she said. The 20-month-old boy is suffering from chemical-induced pneumonia, Roquemore said.
Aniken is being treated at Children’s Hospital Central California in Madera.
“We thought it was going to get better, but it hasn’t,” said Jermaine Roquemore, the boy’s father.
The family will be selling lemonade at their home, 13205 Lynett Way, on Saturday and Sunday to raise money for Aniken’s medical treatment.
