James Arthur Wyatt and Justin Mark Ennis, 21, have been charged with second-degree murder in the death of Lora Louise Shine.
Shine was Wyatt’s girlfriend.
Police said Wyatt and Ennis tied up Shine and left her in a bedroom for several hours on April 17. Shine was dead when they returned, having suffocated, according to police.
Wyatt’s version of events was spelled out in a search warrant document filed with the courts.
On the day of Shine’s death, Wyatt said he went to his house and found Shine tied up with duct tape in a bedroom. He said Ennis claimed he had tied up Shine while they were “playing around.”
Shine was not breathing and Wyatt tried to cut her loose, the court document said.
Wyatt told police that Ennis and his friend stopped him from taking off the tape and held him down in a bedroom for two hours.
Wyatt eventually got free and jumped out of a second-story balcony and called police from a neighbor’s home, according to the court document.
In a jailhouse interview, Ennis said Wyatt framed him for Shine’s death. Ennis said he helped tie her up and that Wyatt often tied up Shine after fights.
