Rodeo to mix traditional, unusual events

For pure entertainment value, there might not be a bigger spectacle than the calf-dressing event at the 22nd annual PRCA Stampede Days Rodeo this weekend at the fairgrounds.

Calf dressing?
Three three-person teams compete to see how long it takes to dress a live calf in a pair of boxer shorts. The only rule: They can't hurt the cow.
Traditional rodeo events are also scheduled, from bull riding to roping to barrel racing.
Scheduled in early May, this rodeo is one of the first of the rodeo season.
The rodeo raises funds for training and equipment for the Kern County Sheriff's Reserve Association, a nonprofit whose members donate more than 55,000 hours each year to their communities, according to the group's Web site.
When: Friday and Saturday, gates open at 6 p.m., rodeo starts at 7:30 p.m.
Where: Kern County Fairgrounds grandstand, Union Avenue parking lot.
