Kern foreclosures top 900 in July

July’s tally of 925 foreclosed properties in Kern set another local record, the Kern County Recorder’s office latest report shows.

The count is an increase from June’s previous record of 823 foreclosures and is nearly quadruple the 237 filed in July 2007.
For the year to date, 4,133 Kern foreclosures have been recorded through July.
Default notices declined slightly to 1,227, or 32 fewer than June’s filings. A year ago July, 780 defaults were recorded.
Loan volume declined in July with 1,942 property loans filed. That compares to June’s 2,187 filings and 4,506 loans a year earlier.
The recorder’s office statistics go back to 1995.
Historically, September 2005 posted the fewest foreclosures with seven; May 1998 the fewest defaults at 126. April’s 1,303 defaults hold the record at the upper end.
Loan filings range from 1,440 in February 1995 to a record 9,562 in August 2005.
