Bakersfield partyers appear to be ahead of the curve when it comes to finding places to throw an unsupervised bash.

With the exception of Fresno, the phenomenon of young people breaking into a vacant home to stage a party seems to be limited to Kern County, according to several state and national real estate organizations.

“If it’s happening, it’s a fairly recent phenomenon,” said Mark Giberson, spokesman for the California Association of Realtors.

A representative of the National Association of Realtors agreed.

“It is not on our radar yet,” association spokesman Iverson Moore said.

Even state and national groups of mortgage brokers, who have a financial interest in staying on top of such trends, hadn’t heard of the parties.

Dustin Hobbs, a spokesman for the California Mortgage Bankers Association, said the idea of vacant-home parties was new to his group.

“They’ve heard of every other instance of one way or another the house gets trashed,” Hobbs said. But not a large party.
