SALEM, Va. -- Eric Hurley pitched a solid, scoreless inning, but, as a team, the California League All-Stars struggled in a 6-3 defeat against the Carolina League All-Stars Tuesday at Lewis-Gale Medical Center Field.

The game, in its 10th installment, went to the Carolina League for the fifth time. The California League has won the event three times, with two games ending in a tie.

With the California League trailing 3-1 in the third inning, Hurley entered the game and didn't give up a run. He gave up one hit and one walk.

"It went good," Hurley said. "It went real good. It felt good. It's was a good atmosphere around the guys. I just went out and had some fun."

Teammate Jesse Ingram struggled a bit, giving up three runs -- two earned -- in the inning he pitched.

Despite the loss, the players weren't down after the game.

"It's nice to just be there," Hurley said before heading out to postgame festivities.

Much like the Blaze during the season, the California League picked up plenty of hits -- the California League actually out-hit the Carolina League 10-9 -- but struggled to score runs.

The Cal League held a brief lead in the first inning when Yung Chi Chen scored on a wild pitch. The Carolina League scored two runs in the second to take the lead and took over from there.

The second half of the season will start Thursday, as the Blaze will play host to Stockton at Sam Lynn at 7:30 p.m.

The All-Star experience isn't over for Hurley, who will next head to the MLB Futures Game July 9 at PNC Park.

"I'm real excited about the next one coming up," Hurley said.
