Meth lab, gun found in search of Johannesburg home

A search warrant served on Thursday netted drug paraphernalia and a sawed-off rifle that were within reach of a 9-year-old girl.

Bret Ballinger, 44, was arrested at the residence at 405 Broadway Ave. in Johannesburg, deputies said. He was booked on suspicion of manufacturing meth, felony child endangerment and other charges.
The juvenile, Ballinger’s daughter, was taken into protective custody.
A small meth lab was located in a trailer behind the residence, deputies said. Johannesburg is south of Ridgecrest and northeast of California City.
