Marshall David Neal, 34, was released from jail on Tuesday, according to the Kern County Sheriff’s Department.
On Jan. 31, Neal pleaded no contest to one felony count of having oral sex with a person under 18, according to Kern County Superior Court records. As part of the plea deal, he was sentenced to a year in jail and a second charge of oral copulation was dismissed.
Neal was also given three years of probation and ordered to register as a sex offender. Neal had to undergo a psychiatric evaluation upon his release from jail.
Neal taught at Garces for 10 years and was arrested last December when a then-17-year-old female student told police about their sexual relationship.
The Californian does not identify victims of sex crimes.
Neal asked the student to lie to officers about what happened, according to a phone conversation recorded by police.
