DEREK SPRAGUE has earned the Certified Commercial Investment Member designation from the CCIM Institute, a commercial real estate association. The designation is awarded to brokers who complete a certain curriculum and can demonstrate adequate industry experience. Sprague works as a commercial real estate broker at Watson-Touchstone Commercial, in Bakersfield.

BOB MALKIN has joined Watson-Touchstone. He previously worked for Prudential/KW & Associates. Malkin has a master's degree in family and child counseling.
MALISA KIEFFER has joined the staff of Audrey Demirjian Insurance Services Inc. She has seven years of underwriting experience in property and casualty insurance. Kieffer recent acquired her fire and casualty broker-agent license, and is pursuing an associate's degree at Bakersfield College.
JARED COPE, HOLLY ADAMS and JESSICA COVERT — collectively known as The Cope Real Estate Team — have joined Keller Williams Realty of Bakersfield. The team assists Bakersfield residents in the purchase or sale of residential and residential income properties.
DAVID B. HAIR has opened the Bakersfield Eye Institute, offering a full range of ophthalmology services at 7508 Meany Ave. The Garces High School graduate serves as the institute's founder and clinical director. Hair earned a medical degree at Georgetown University School of Medicine, and went on to serve his ophthalmology residency at the Washington National Eye Center. He has also served military personnel at Bethesda National Naval Hospital and Walter Reed Army Medical Center.
CARL BREINING has been appointed Kern County's compliance and accountability officer. He worked for 20 years at Hewlett-Packard Co., most recently in its ethics and compliance office. He earned a bachelor's degree at George Mason University, and a master's degree in economics at Baylor University.
MICHAEL STODDARD has earned the Commercial Lines Coverage Specialist designation from The Hartford School of Insurance. Stoddard, a Bakersfield native who is active in veterans organizations, works at Clifford & Bradford Insurance Agency, where he writes all lines of commercial insurance. He specializes in new business ventures.
ABDEL L. SALEM, Delano's city manager, has been awarded a 35-year service award by ICMA, a local government leadership and management organization. The award celebrates ICMA members' dedication to public service and professional management. Salem previously served as city manager of El Centro for 23 years, and before that worked as El Centro's finance director and assistant finance director.
