Kevin Sluga, CPA father-in-law of David Crisp, whose name came up in last week’s license hearings of the former Crisp & Cole Real Estate principals, issued a statement through his attorney Saturday regarding a letter he allegedly created to help his daughter get a loan.

Sluga’s former business partner, certified public accountant Timothy Hubbell of Bakersfield, testified Wednesday in the hearings for David Crisp and Carl Cole to answer questions about a September 2006 letter apparently bearing his signature. He said in the proceedings he did not write the letter and the signature was not his. Hubbell told reporters afterward that Sluga admitted he created the letter and was remorseful.

Pasadena attorney George W. Buehler issued Sluga’s statement:

“I want to make it clear that I did not forge the signature of Mr. Hubbell on this letter. I understand that there is an ongoing investigation by the FBI concerning this and related matters. Under the advice of my counsel I am not free to make any further comment.”

“It is my hope and expectation that all of the facts concerning this matter will be brought out in the appropriate manner through the legal process,” Sluga added.

The letter was found in a 2006 loan file of Jennifer Crisp, David Crisp’s wife, and submitted to Aegis Wholesale Corp. for what would be $475,000 worth of loans she received to buy 12706 Lanai Ave.

It was included in the file to clarify Jennifer Crisp’s supposed employment at California Business Solutions, a bookkeeping and accountancy firm co-owned by Sluga.

Hubbell also testified the employment claim in the document was false. Jennifer Crisp never worked at the company, Hubbell said, while the letter claimed she had worked at the company for two years.
