Some 538 properties sold in June, a spike of more than 60 percent from the 333 sales recorded in June 2007, according to Linda Vernon, chief executive officer of the local association.
The median price, however, dropped to $196,000 from last June’s $280,000, a decline of 30 percent.
June’s numbers are for Bakersfield only, Vernon said, not for all of Kern County.
Statewide, sales increased 17.5 percent and median prices dropped 37.7 percent in June, the California Association of Realtors reported Friday.
