Owner Rob Fox said the store lost its lease, and “the economy is just too unpredictable to move the store to another location.”

The store is best known for transforming itself into “HalloweenWorks” to call attention to costume sales every October. In-store promotions included bringing in character actors who played some of TV and film’s best loved ghouls over the years, including Eddie Munster, Michael Myers and Leatherface.

The store at 44440 Ming Ave. next to Food Maxx has put its entire inventory on sale at up to 75 percent off as it prepares to close.

SOUND OFF ON GROWTH

Tehachapi residents can voice their views about future growth at a meeting Wednesday. The discussion begins at 6 p.m. at the Stallion Springs Community Center, 27850 Stallion Springs Drive. It’s the first of a two-part series.

The Kern County Planning Department is updating the Greater Tehachapi Specific Plan, which is designed to guide future development and help make land-use planning decisions for the next 20 years. A second workshop will take place in late August.

LOCAL BUSINESS HONORED

Fleet Card Fuels was honored by the California Council for Excellence for its business performance in areas such as leadership, strategic planning and process management.

Fleet was among 12 California organizations to be recognized. The company is based in Bakersfield and distributes and supplies bulk motor vehicle fuels.

LINGERIE MAKER OPENS

A custom lingerie maker has opened a fitting center in downtown Bakersfield and is scouting the city for 1,000 to 1,500 square feet of industrial space for a manufacturing facility.

Snares of Venus sells custom-made bras, corsets and other underwear to women who are hard to fit due to unusual body types or medical issues such as mastectomies, as well as maternity bras for women who breast feed.

The company opened a private fitting center downtown at 1527 19th St. in April. Fittings are only available by appointment, which can be scheduled by calling 800-618-1891.

Owner Shelancia Daniel is manufacturing the lingerie in her former home of Houston for now, but hopes to move that operation here by fall. The new manufacturing facility would employ three seamstresses, a receptionist and a customer service/sales representative.

New customers pay a $375 “pattern origination fee” to obtain their specific dimensions, and $130 per bra after that. Panties start at $45.
