Banks rank tops in national list

Two Kern banks and two regional community banks with a strong Bakersfield presence made U.S. Banker magazine’s list of Top 200 Community Banks around the country in its June issue.

The rankings, based on equity returns, went this way for local institutions:
• Bank of the Sierra’s parent company ranked 6th. The Porterville-based bank scored an average 22.17 percent return on equity over three years.
• San Joaquin Bank’s parent company ranked 17th, with a three-year average return of 18.89 percent for the Bakersfield-based bank.
• United Security Bank’s parent company came in 29th with an average 18.06 percent return over three years. It is headquartered in Fresno.
• Mojave Desert Bank, based in Mojave, came in 199th with an average 12.74 percent three-year return.
