Foreclosures up again in May

Kern County had 749 properties foreclosed on in May, marking the 10th month the tally has increased, Kern County Recorder’s office statistics show.

Foreclosures are at their highest point since at least January 1995, the earliest date included in the recorder’s office report.
Default notices, which are the first legal filing in the foreclosure process, fell slightly to 1,272 in May from 1,303 the month before, statistics show.
Defaults last month had more than doubled compared with the same month in 2007.
The county recorded 2,921 deeds in May, compared with 4,168 recorded a year earlier, statistics show.
