Bail bond firm sets up shop in former drug front

A bail bonds business on Chester Avenue has taken the spot of a business that was shut down last year because a drug trafficker was operating out of it.

Liberty Bail Bonds opened April 15 at 1115 Chester Ave., the previous home of Geez Clothing. A FBI probe called “Operation Valley Star” zeroed in on a drug trafficking organization in June last year, responsible for distributing large amounts of drugs in Northern and eastern California, with supply lines from Mexico and distribution channels that fed other U.S. cities, according to the U.S. Attorney's office.

The group operated under Nuestra Familia, a violent Hispanic gang based within the California prison system. A DEA investigation called “Operation Dictator” focused on Fidel Ramon “Mouse” Castro, a convicted drug trafficker who operated out of Geez Clothing store.

Law enforcement agencies arrested 39 people and executed 28 federal search warrants in the Central Valley and other parts of the state in last year’s raid.
