Bakersfield Police arrested a Delano man Thursday evening after he led officers on a dangerous high-speed chase on highways 99 and 65.

The chase started just before 5 p.m. when a patrol officer spotted a car stolen from Visalia near 10th and Eye streets, said Lt. Gary Moore.

Two suspects bailed from the car, leaving the lone officer no choice but to follow the driver, who soon headed north on Highway 99 at speeds exceeding 90 mph.

The officer was joined by other units and a helicopter overhead as they followed the suspect onto northbound Highway 65.

"He headed into an orchard in the Delano area and hit a Cyclone fence, or a chain-link fence, allowing officers to pin him in," Moore said.

Police arrested Eric Felix, 24, on charges of grand-theft auto, evading and reckless driving.

Felix was admitted to Kern Medical Center with a broken left shoulder, which probably occurred when officers extracted him from the car, Moore said.
