The Bakersfield metropolitan statistical area has the fourth highest foreclosure rate in the nation, according to a Tuesday report by RealtyTrac, an Irvine company specializing in foreclosure properties.

The area, which includes all of Kern County, registered one foreclosure notice for every 51 households during the first three months of the year, the report states.
The top 10 list was dominated by six California regions, including Stockton in the No. 1 spot and Riverside/San Bernardino at No. 2.
Foreclosure activity increased in 46 of 50 states in early 2008 when compared with the same time last year, RealtyTrac states.
