Police checkpoint impounds 99 vehicles and makes three DUI arrests

A drivers’ checkpoint Friday night in the 1300 block of Union Avenue resulted in Bakersfield police arresting three on suspicion of drunken driving, impounding 99 vehicles and citing 69 people for unlicensed drivers, 24 for driving on suspended or revoked licenses and 12 for other traffic violations.

Bakersfield police reported one of the suspected drunken drivers was also charged with child endangerment for having a boy in his car at the time of the arrest.

Another man was arrested on a charges of grand theft auto and possessing stolen property when it was discovered the car he was driving was reported stolen out of Santa Maria.

The vehicles impounded were for drivers being unlicensed, driving on a suspended or revoked license, or arrested for drunken driving.

During the checkpoint, 2,028 vehicles passed through and 1,069 were screened by officers.

The arrests and citations came from those vehicles which were screened.
